Gor Mahia Vice Chair Sally Bolo has challenged the club’s players and technical bench to shift their focus to continental football after winning the FKF Premier League title.
Speaking during the club’s End-of-Season Dinner held at Curve Hotel on Tuesday night, June 9, 2025, Bolo congratulated the players, technical bench, executive committee and supporters for their collective effort in securing the league crown.
She emphasized that the success was a result of teamwork across all levels of the club.
“To win means that we worked as a team,” said Bolo while thanking players, coaches, executive members and the club’s supporters for their contribution throughout the season.
Bolo paid special tribute to the club’s passionate fan base, including the Green Ultras, team choirs and Gor Mahia supporters’ branches across the country, acknowledging the sacrifices they made in supporting the team.
“We know that you have sacrificed your finances and your time. We want to say thank you to all Gor Mahia fans from Kisumu, Homa Bay, Mombasa and all over the country, especially the Machakos branch.”
With the league title secured, Bolo said the club’s attention must now turn to the CAF Champions League, where she believes Gor Mahia can make a significant impact.
She reminded players that the club’s last notable continental campaign came in 2019 when K’Ogalo reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup and urged them to aim even higher this time.
“The best way to go back to Africa is to make sure that we reach the CAF Champions League group stage. I don’t think it’s a big target for us.”
Bolo also urged players to remain disciplined during the off-season break and return ready for the challenges ahead, including the CECAFA tournament and the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds.
“As you break for your holidays, please don’t over-enjoy. Know that when you come back for pre-season, we have work to do.”
The Gor Mahia vice chairperson further expressed confidence that the club would be well prepared once the CAF Champions League draw is conducted, enabling the team to map out its route to the lucrative group stage.
She also reserved praise for the club’s sponsors, including SportPesa, Azam TV and Betika/Pluscon, noting that their support had contributed significantly to the team’s success and visibility.
Bolo highlighted SportPesa’s long-standing partnership with the club, recalling international opportunities such as friendly matches against English sides Everton and Hull City, while also applauding Azam TV for enhancing the exposure of Gor Mahia players across Africa.
“At Azam, you have given our players value addition. People are able to see them in Africa and showcase their talent.”
She concluded by thanking all stakeholders for standing with the club throughout the campaign and urged them to continue supporting the team as it prepares for another challenge on the continental stage.
“Now that we have won the league, the next step is going to Africa.”
