Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC will represent the country at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 25 to August 9.
The regional club championship is expected to stage one of its most competitive editions in recent years, with organizers working to attract stronger opposition from across the continent.
Gor Mahia, one of East Africa’s most successful clubs, return to the tournament aiming to add another regional title to their rich history, while Kenya Police FC will be seeking to make a strong impression against some of the region’s top sides.

The 2026 edition is also set to receive a significant boost following interest from leading North African clubs. Tournament organizers have confirmed that Libyan giants Al Ahly Benghazi and Tunisian heavyweights CS Sfaxien have formally requested invitations to participate, while fellow Libyan club Al Nasr Benghazi has also expressed strong interest in joining the competition.
The inclusion of clubs from North Africa would significantly raise the tournament’s quality and competitiveness, offering East African teams an opportunity to test themselves against opponents with extensive experience in continental competitions.

Traditionally featuring clubs from the CECAFA region, the Kagame Cup has increasingly sought to expand its appeal by inviting high-profile teams from outside East Africa, enhancing both its commercial value and footballing standard.
With Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC carrying Kenya’s hopes, local fans will be eager to see the two sides challenge for regional supremacy while measuring themselves against potentially stronger opposition should the invited North African clubs confirm their participation.
The tournament will be hosted in Kigali, with fixtures, group-stage draws and participating clubs expected to be confirmed by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) in the coming weeks.
