Tunisian giants Étoile Sportive du Sahel have been slapped with a transfer ban by FIFA after failing to settle a KSh5.1 million transfer fee owed to former Gor Mahia for defender Alphonce Omija.
According to information published on the official Gor Mahia online portal, the Tunisian side has not honored the agreed payment since Omija’s move last year, prompting intervention from FIFA.
In a letter addressed to both clubs, FIFA confirmed the sanction:
“It appears that, despite the Decision, Étoile Sportive du Sahel (the Respondent) has not yet complied with its financial obligations towards Gor Mahia FC.
In this regard, we wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players internationally and nationally has been implemented by FIFA on the Respondent.”
The ban prevents Étoile Sportive du Sahel from registering new players both domestically and internationally until the outstanding amount is fully paid. FIFA further stated that the sanction could extend for up to three consecutive transfer windows if the debt remains unsettled.
This ruling marks a significant victory for Gor Mahia FC, who have consistently pursued the matter through the appropriate channels, as confirmed on their official portal.
