As the Gor Mahia title charge gathers unstoppable momentum, it was once again the Green Army that stood tall, roaring their team on to a crucial 2–1 victory over Mathare United at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, 28 February.

With the FKF Premier League entering its decisive stretch, the bond between K’Ogalo and their supporters proved decisive. Despite the cold Nairobi evening and a tense, goalless first half, the fans never wavered, singing, chanting, and pushing the team until the final whistle.

That unwavering support did not go unnoticed by head coach Charles Akonnor, who credited the fans for lifting the team when the match hung in the balance.

“We urge our fans to continue turning up in large numbers to support and push the team because this journey is a collective effort,” Akonnor said after the match.

Inspired by the atmosphere, Gor Mahia came out with renewed energy in the second half. Substitute Ebenezer Assifuah ignited celebrations in the stands with the opening goal in the 67th minute, sending the Green Army into full voice. Even after Mathare briefly silenced the crowd with a late equaliser, the fans rallied harder, urging the team forward until Enock Morrison’s 88th-minute penalty sparked wild celebrations across the stadium.

Akonnor later revealed that the tactical halftime changes were made to inject tempo and aggression, something the players delivered, backed by the crowd’s relentless energy.

“The fans kept believing, and that belief transferred to the pitch. The players responded, fought harder, and created the moments that won us the game,” he explained.

As Gor Mahia edge closer to a historic 22nd league title, the message from the technical bench is clear: the Green Army remains K’Ogalo’s strongest weapon.

Next up is the rescheduled Round 22 encounter against Posta Rangers on Thursday, 5 March, and once again, all roads will lead to the stands, where Gor Mahia’s title push truly begins.
