Former Gor Mahia FC defender Alphonce Otieno Omija has officially parted ways with Tunisian giants Étoile Sportive du Sahel and is now a free agent, sparking fresh interest among K’Ogalo supporters and clubs across the region.

Omija left Gor Mahia in August 2024 after emerging as one of the club’s most dependable defenders, earning a move to North Africa following impressive displays at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
From K’Ogalo to North Africa

A product of Gor Mahia’s defensive setup, Omija grew into a first-team regular during his time at Ligi Ndogo, where he featured prominently in both FKF Premier League and CAF interclub competitions. His consistent performances, physical strength, and aerial dominance made him a fan favourite at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium.

His performances at CHAN 2024, where he scored once and played key minutes for Harambee Stars, further elevated his profile and paved the way for his move to Étoile du Sahel, one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.

Experience in Tunisia

At Étoile du Sahel, Omija gained valuable exposure in the highly competitive Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1. Although game time was limited due to stiff competition, the Kenyan defender benefited from training in a high-intensity professional environment, exposure to CAF Champions League-level standards and experience in tactical and physically demanding matches

The stint added important continental experience to his growing career.

Could a K’Ogalo Return Be on the Cards?
With Omija now a free agent, speculation is already growing among Gor Mahia fans about a possible return to K’Ogalo, especially as the club continues to strengthen its squad for domestic and continental competitions.

At just 23 years old, Omija combines local league experience, international exposure, and overseas training, making him an attractive option should Gor Mahia look to bolster their defence.

Whether he returns to Ligi Ndogo or secures another move abroad, Omija’s journey from Gor Mahia to North Africa and back into the transfer market remains a point of pride for K’Ogalo supporters.
