Shakava: We have depth to stand test of tight schedule

Gor Mahia captain Haron Shakava is optimistic the team will stand the test of time as there is good depth in the team to navigate the tight schedule this season.

Despite being engaged in domestic competitions like league matches, Shield tournament as well as regional competitions like the recent SportPesa Super Cup and the upcoming Cecafa tournament, Gor Mahia is hugely involved in Caf continental matches which are still running through to August.

With the basket full of assignments to go about with their eyes set on the prizes, the captain is sure the quality and depth in the team will help them a great deal.

“As we can all see, this year is a very tight one for us because we are engaged in quite a number of competitions. With all that, we are calm and focused because we have good depth in the team and I think we will manage,” the captain exclusively told the official Gor Mahia website.

With the season fast rolling down and the team is doing well – already won a regional title (SportPesa Super Cup), domestic Super Cup, already doing great in continetal matches and leading the local league with a gap of nine points, Shakava says they are on the right track and they will maintain their focus all through.

“I think we are on the right track…. we will maintain our focus and have the best attitude because nothing comes easy,” he added.

The towering centre-back who has been very instrumental in many matches says that the unity in the team too is also a major boost in their good performance.

“It’s all about team-work and togetherness at Gor Mahia that is pushing us to deliver as expected. We work together for the greater good of the team, we listen and support each other at all levels and so, we appreciate the work we’ve done so far.”

After the two league matches in Kisumu, Gor Mahia will head to Tanzania for Cecafa competition and in the same month of July, they will be heading to Goodison Park in UK to play Everton in a friendly match.
