The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially disbursed the 2025/26 SportPesa League prize money, with champions Gor Mahia receiving a record KSh15 million following their title-winning campaign. Runners-up AFC Leopards have been awarded KSh3 million, while third-placed Kenya Police FC take home KSh2 million.
The payout marks the fulfillment of a promise made at the beginning of the season when FKF and SportPesa unveiled a revamped prize structure aimed at increasing competitiveness and rewarding top-performing clubs. The total prize fund stood at KSh20 million, with the league champions guaranteed KSh15 million, runners-up KSh3 million, and the third-placed team KSh2 million.
The early disbursement of the prize money has also been widely praised within Kenyan football circles. For the first time in recent memory, clubs have received their league rewards almost immediately after the conclusion of the season.

Previous administrations were often criticized for delaying prize money payments, with some clubs waiting months and, in certain cases, more than a year before receiving their dues. The prompt payment by FKF is being viewed as a significant step towards improving financial accountability and restoring confidence among clubs, many of which depend on such funds for player salaries, transfers, and preparations for the next campaign.
For Gor Mahia, the prize money caps off a memorable campaign that saw the record Kenyan champions reclaim the league crown and secure qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League. The KSh15 million prize is the highest amount ever awarded to a winner of Kenya’s top-flight football league, representing a significant increase from previous seasons.
AFC Leopards, who mounted a strong challenge throughout the season, settle for second place and the accompanying KSh3 million reward. The Mashemeji Derby rivals pushed Gor Mahia for much of the campaign before K’Ogalo eventually sealed the title with matches to spare.

Kenya Police FC, meanwhile, secured third place and the KSh2 million prize, ensuring they finish the season among the league’s top performers after their historic title-winning campaign the previous year.
The prize money distribution highlights the growing financial investment in Kenyan football following SportPesa’s return as the title sponsor. FKF President Hussein Mohammed had previously described the enhanced rewards as part of broader efforts to strengthen club football and improve the league’s commercial appeal. The sponsorship deal between FKF and SportPesa has been widely viewed as a major boost for local football, with increased prize money among its key benefits.
The disbursement now allows clubs to begin planning for the 2026/27 season, with Gor Mahia expected to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to continental competition.
