Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will represent Kenya at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 18 to August 9, 2026. The regional club championship will bring together some of East, Central, and North Africa’s top football clubs in what promises to be one of the most competitive editions of the tournament.
The participation of Gor Mahia comes after their successful 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League title-winning campaign, earning K’Ogalo the right to fly the Kenyan flag at the prestigious regional competition.
Strong Field Awaits K’Ogalo
According to reports, the tournament is expected to feature regional heavyweights including:
- APR FC (Rwanda)
- Rayon Sports (Rwanda)
- Gor Mahia (Kenya)
- Young Africans S.C. (Tanzania)
- Simba SC (Tanzania)
- El Merriekh SC Bentiu (South Sudan)
- Al Hilal SC (Sudan)
- Al-Merrikh SC (Sudan)
Several other clubs from Libya, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Somalia and invited guest teams are also expected to participate.
Kigali Ready to Host
Rwanda was awarded hosting rights for the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, marking the return of the competition to Kigali. The tournament forms part of a busy football calendar for the country, which will host several regional competitions during the year.
Gor Mahia Eyeing Regional Glory
Gor Mahia are among the most successful clubs in CECAFA history and will be aiming to add another regional crown to their trophy cabinet. K’Ogalo reached the final of the tournament in 2015 before finishing runners-up and will be looking to go one better in Kigali.
The competition will also serve as crucial preparation for Gor Mahia’s upcoming continental assignments, with the Kenyan champions expected to participate in the CAF Champions League qualifiers later in the year.
