Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo has expressed confidence in his team’s preparations ahead of their Kenyan Premier League clash against Gor Mahia scheduled for Sunday, 3rd May 2026 at Mumias Sports Complex.
Currently sitting fourth on the league table with 47 points, Kakamega Homeboyz are aiming to return to winning ways after a difficult run of results.
Winless Run Not a Major Concern
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Odhiambo acknowledged the team’s recent struggles, having gone four matches without a win. However, he downplayed the impact of the poor run, insisting performances have been encouraging despite the results.
“Yes, it’s like four matches without a win, but if you look at those matches, we’ve just been unlucky. We’ve done so much in rectifying the areas we were not doing well.”
Focus on Finishing and Attack
The coach pointed out that the main issue has been inefficiency in front of goal, despite the team creating numerous chances.
“It has been the department of attack and striking, finishing. We are creating so many chances but not converting them into goals.”
To address this, the technical bench has focused on improving attacking approaches and making adjustments in personnel.
“We’ve worked on changing how we approach attacks and even the characters involved. From training, we’ve seen a lot of goals, and we believe that will reflect in the match.”
Positive Mindset Ahead of Matchday
Odhiambo emphasized the importance of focusing on the future rather than dwelling on past results, noting that his players remain professional and mentally ready.
“What counts is what is ahead of us. The past is gone, we’ve forgotten about it. Now we focus on what we can manage.”
With renewed confidence from training sessions, Kakamega Homeboyz will be looking to capitalize on home advantage and challenge league leaders Gor Mahia in what promises to be a competitive encounter.
