Peggy Datcha Ottienoe aka ‘Nyar Gor’ (Daughter of Gor) embodies a rare and profound dedication to record FKF Premier League giants Gor Mahia.

Nyar Gor’s journey with K’Ogalo began in the tender years of her childhood and has since grown into an indelible part of her identity.

Through highs and lows, Peggy’s devotion to Gor Mahia has not only stood the test of time but has also become a beacon of inspiration for fans and players alike.

In a past interview, Peggy recounted how her love for Gor Mahia was seeded during her childhood in Mombasa county, where she attended Star of the Sea Primary School.

It was here that she, alongside her father Dr. CJ Ottienoe would frequent the Kenya National Super League (now FKF Premier League) matches.

This early exposure not only ignited her passion for football but also forged a lasting bond with Gor Mahia.

Back then, watching K’Ogalo matches was a matter of life and death. These activities were part of my domestic and academic menu and they made my life complete,” Ottienoe told Standard Sports.

Her journey with the team is dotted with significant milestones, from witnessing the historic Africa Cup Winners Cup (Mandela Cup) triumph in 1987 to celebrating the team’s dominance in the FKF Premier League.

Peggy’s unwavering support for Gor Mahia is deeply intertwined with her personal story.

Being the sixth born in a family of nine, her dedication saw her traveling with her father to Nairobi for home matches.

This devotion, however, came with its sacrifices. Concerned about her academic commitments, her father decided to transfer her to Maseno Primary School, a move that, while emotionally challenging for Peggy, did not dampen her spirit.

“I was shocked when dad planned for my transfer without my knowledge. I was disturbed emotionally but I had no choice. I just had to respect it and start a new way of life,” she recalls in a past interview with Standard.

She continued to follow the team’s progress with keen interest, relying on radio broadcasts and newspapers.

After completing her secondary education, Peggy moved to Nairobi to pursue a diploma in secretarial studies at Kenya Polytechnic.

This relocation was a turning point, reuniting her with Gor Mahia and allowing her to become a fixture at their training grounds.

Her career in the Ministry of Transport and Communications and later at the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority provided her with the means to support the team in more tangible ways.

From providing porridge and mandazi to players and officials during training to preparing meals for the entire team, Peggy’s acts of kindness have endeared her to the Gor Mahia family.

“I have been doing this for over three decades and I’m happy all the regimes in the club’s history have appreciated my efforts. It is not an easy task but it requires a lot of dedication and commitment to do that,” she narrated.

As Gor Mahia edges closer to the end of the 2023/2024 season, leading the league standings, Ottienoe’s strategic vision for the team is clear.

“There are some people who are not happy with your success. So, they’ll make sure they disorganize you. You need to decide when to turn off your phone when to sleep, when to wake up, and, maybe after you’ve rested for three days, organize your push-ups and sit-ups, run a bit, and again, you have to know what you’re eating within that free time you’re given,” she told Gor Mahia TV.

“For the ten remaining matches, we shall try our best so that we win eight, draw one, and lose one so that we can go and represent this country,” she added.

Peggy’s influence extends beyond the pitch; she is a guardian to 24 orphans from her immediate and extended family.

Former Gor Mahia treasurer Sally Bolo commends Peggy’s extraordinary devotion, noting her exceptional acts of kindness and insightful contributions to the team.

“During my tenure as a fan and as the national treasurer, I have had the privilege of witnessing Peggy’s extraordinary devotion to the club firsthand.

“Her exceptional acts of kindness, from preparing nourishing porridge and snacks for the players to offering insightful coaching and mentorship, exemplify her unparalleled commitment and love for the team,” Bolo wrote.

As Gor Mahia continues to forge ahead, they do so with the knowledge that Nyar Gor stands with them, a beacon of unwavering support and an embodiment of the true spirit of fandom.
