The Coaches Who Defined Eras
Allan Thigo was among the earliest tacticians to establish Gor Mahia as a dominant force in Kenyan football during the 1970s, winning multiple league titles.
Len Julians also left a huge mark on the club, guiding K’Ogalo to success in the 1980s and early 1990s. His influence helped shape one of the strongest generations in Gor Mahia history.

In 1987, Danish coach Jack Johnson led the club during one of its most iconic periods, the same year Gor Mahia conquered Africa by winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup — making them the first and only Kenyan club to win a continental trophy.
The modern era of dominance began in 2013 under Bobby Williamson before Frank Nuttall continued the momentum with back-to-back league titles. Gor Mahia later enjoyed another successful spell under Dylan Kerr and Hasan Oktay as the club maintained supremacy in Kenyan football.

Northern Irish coach Johnathan McKinstry then revived the club once again, leading Gor Mahia to consecutive league titles in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
Now, Charles Akonnor has written his own chapter in the club’s rich history after delivering the 2025/26 title and extending Gor Mahia’s dominance at the summit of Kenyan football.
From local legends to foreign tacticians, Gor Mahia’s success story has been shaped by coaches from across the world, all united by one mission: keeping K’Ogalo at the top.
