The Gor Mahia FC legends fraternity has paid an emotional tribute to fallen club icon Allan Thigo following news of his death on Friday, May 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt message shared on the official Gor Mahia Legends social media platforms, the former players described Thigo as a giant of Kenyan football whose legacy will forever remain etched in the history of both Gor Mahia and the national team.

“Honoring the Legacy of Allan Thigo. It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Allan Thigo, a titan of Kenyan football and a true Gor Mahia FC legend, who passed away today, May 9, 2026. Thigo, famously known as ‘The 90-Minute Man’ and ‘The Professor,’ was a visionary who defined an era of excellence for both club and country. Rest well legend.”

Widely celebrated for his intelligence on the ball, leadership and eye for goal, Thigo remains one of the greatest midfielders ever produced in Kenyan football history. During his illustrious spell with Gor Mahia FC, he scored 88 goals, making him the club’s second all-time top scorer behind club legend Sammy Onyango.

Nicknamed “The Professor” for his calm and calculated style of play, and “The 90-Minute Man” for his relentless work rate, Thigo inspired generations of players and fans with his commitment and brilliance on the pitch. He also represented Harambee Stars with distinction, cementing his status as one of Kenya’s football greats.

His passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across the Kenyan football fraternity, with fans, former teammates and clubs remembering him as a humble icon whose impact transcended generations.

Rest in peace, Allan Thigo, a true son of K’Ogalo and a legend of Kenyan football.
