Why Austin Odhiambo Is Training with Gor Mahia After Leaving Lebanon Temporarily

Harambee Stars midfielder Austin Odhiambo is currently training with his former club Gor Mahia F.C. as he awaits clarity on the resumption of football in Lebanon following the suspension of the domestic league.

Odhiambo recently returned to Kenya from Lebanon, where he features for top-flight side Nejmeh SC in the Lebanese Premier League. The competition was temporarily halted due to the ongoing instability in the Middle East, forcing several foreign-based players to return to their home countries until the situation stabilizes.

The creative midfielder is among three Kenyan internationals at Nejmeh who have been affected by the suspension. The others are experienced defensive midfielder Teddy Akumu and striker Masoud Juma, both of whom have also travelled back to Kenya as they await further communication from their club.

During his stay in the country, Odhiambo has linked up with Gor Mahia’s training sessions to keep himself in top physical condition. The midfielder previously starred for K’Ogalo before sealing a move abroad, and his return to the club’s training environment has been warmly received by players and technical staff.

Sources close to the club indicate that the training arrangement is purely temporary and aimed at helping the midfielder maintain match fitness during the unexpected break in Lebanon’s football calendar. Maintaining sharpness will be crucial for Odhiambo, who remains an important player for both his club and the national team.

Odhiambo has grown into one of Kenya’s most exciting midfield talents in recent seasons, earning recognition for his creativity, vision, and ability to dictate play in the middle of the park. His impressive performances with Gor Mahia earned him a move to the Lebanese giants Nejmeh, where he joined fellow Kenyans Akumu and Juma in a rare trio of Harambee Stars players at the same club.

The suspension of the Lebanese league has disrupted the momentum of many players in the competition. However, Odhiambo’s decision to train with Gor Mahia ensures he remains ready whenever football resumes in Lebanon.

For Gor Mahia supporters, seeing the talented midfielder back at the club’s training ground has sparked excitement and nostalgia, even if only for a short period. While there is no indication of a permanent return, his presence adds quality and experience to the training sessions as the team continues preparations for upcoming domestic fixtures.

As the situation in the Middle East continues to be monitored, Odhiambo and his Kenyan teammates at Nejmeh will be hoping for a quick resolution that allows the Lebanese Premier League to resume. Until then, the Harambee Stars midfielder will continue sharpening his fitness levels on familiar ground in Nairobi with Gor Mahia.
