Boniface Omodi was once again in the scoresheet once again as Gor Mahia continure to dominate the “Mashemeji” derby beating arch-rivals AFC Leopards 1-0 in a match played at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on Mashujaa day (Wednesday 20th Octobe 2021).
The Nineteen-time Kenyan champions fielding most of its reserve players and testing the new signing extended unbeaten record against AFC Leopards since 6th March 2016.
Omondi who returned back to his home after moving to Wazito FC last season scored the 24th minute of the game after Ingwe (nick name of AFC Leopards) goalkeeping error.
K’Ogalo had a chance to make it two (2) in the Benson Omalla in the 288th minute, but the his strike was cleared but Leopards goalkeeper.
The closest Ingwe came to finding an equaliser came when a shot bound for the net was expertly kept out by talented Gor Mahia youngster Frank Odhiambo who went in with a well-timed sliding tackle.
It was K’Ogalo’s seventh consecutive victory in the Mashemeji derby and their second of the season.
K’Ogalo head coach Mark Harrison was overjoyed after claiming his first victory in maiden Mashemeji derby at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Wednesday.
“It was certainly a marvelous performance and the boys played according to the script. This most certainly serves as a major boost as we prepare for our return leg against Al Ahly Merowe,” said Harrison during post-match interview with The Stars.
“We came into this match with a lot of respect for our opponents and we had prepared well for a tough encounter. They were worthy opponents and gave us a hard time, I must admit,” Harrison added.
It was K’Ogalo’s seventh consecutive victory in the Mashemeji derby. They will now face Ulinzi Stars on Friday before embackinf to continental duties on Sunday aginst South Sudenese side Al Ahly Merowe at Kasarani.
