The Kenyan international midfielder has been training with Gor Mahia for the last two weeks, and could be on the verge of a move after he underwent a medical on Friday afternoon.
Oboya returned to the country early June after terminating his contract with Vietnamese side Thanh Hoa, and could pen down a 6 months contract at the club should he pass the medical.
According to club Secretary General George Bwana, all has been concluded and the final determinant is the test.
“We have engaged Oboya with an intention to sign him all that remains now is for him to pass the medical,” said Bwana.
“He has been true to us with his past career history especially on the times he was out injured and we have also requested for his previous medical records.
“If successful, we will be glad to welcome him to K’Ogalo family. His experience will be crucial to our title challenge.”
Prior to moving to Europe in 2007, Oboya featured in the local premier league for AFC Leopards (2005) and Tusker FC (2006) from where he joined Czech’s FK Siad Most.
In 2012 he moved to the Slovakian league joining MFK Ruzomberok on a 3 year deal majorly slowed down by an ankle injury.
Upon recovery, he moved to Vietnamese league side Thanh Hoa in search of regular play time, but an eminent lack of the same led to his terminating the contract midway through the season.
The speedy winger has won 32 caps with the national team Harambee Stars and hopes to pick his blistering form at Gor Mahia.
Gor Mahia have already confirmed the signing of midfielder Erick Ochieng (Bandari), striker Paul Odhiambo (kakamega Homeboyz) and goalkeeper Joel Bataro (Thika United) in the mid-season transfer window.
