Ben Stanley Omondi continued to prove his importance for Gor Mahia after earning special praise from head coach Charles Akonnor following the club’s hard-fought FKF Premier League clash against Kenya Police FC at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
Ben Stanley was among the standout performers after coming off the bench to inject energy and composure into Gor Mahia’s midfield as K’Ogalo fought back to secure a crucial late equaliser in the tense encounter.
Coach Akonnor singled out the midfielder alongside striker Ebenezer Assifuah, applauding the duo for executing tactical instructions effectively during a difficult match against a well-organized Police side.
“We had ideas of what to do in the second half against an opponent who never gave us too much space. They sat deep and defended well against us. The goals were not coming, but we managed to nick it late, which was good for us,” Akonnor said after the match.

The former Ghana international further emphasized the growing importance of squad depth, noting that matches are often decided by players coming off the bench.
“Each and every player comes in with instructions and additional efforts from the bench. Sometimes you win games from the bench; it is how matches are won. Players like Assifuah and Ben Stanley did a good job for us. This is a good team; in situations when things are difficult and you manage to get the goals, it shows a good sign of the team,” he added.
Ben Stanley’s calmness in possession and ability to control the tempo gave Gor Mahia renewed momentum in the closing stages as the record league champions pushed for a comeback. His impact once again highlighted the midfielder’s growing influence within Akonnor’s squad during the crucial closing stages of the season.
The draw ensured Gor Mahia maintained pressure in the title race while also extending their recent unbeaten run in the league.
