CAF official Lux September has moved to clarify growing speculation surrounding a recent controversial decision, firmly stating that CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe had no involvement in the process and was only informed after the verdict had been reached.

Speaking during an interview on 947 Joburg, September emphasized the importance of respecting formal structures and separating emotional reactions from professional responsibilities within football governance.

“We must give space to the legal process that is happening right now,” he said, adding that his own passion for football often leads to strong personal opinions, but discipline is essential in his professional role.

Separating Passion from Governance

Lux September highlighted the distinction between being a football fan and acting as a football administrator, noting that professionalism must guide decision-making.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe

“Before I’m a football official, I’m a crazy football fan. I have strong views as a fan, but I have a lot of discipline in the work that I do,” he explained.

He further stressed that questioning whether Motsepe personally liked or disliked the decision was the wrong approach, insisting that the focus should instead be on fairness and due process.

“I know the president of CAF has a lot of discipline in relation to the application… Is he committed to a fair ethical process? That is the correct question,” September added.

Rejecting Allegations of External Influence

Addressing speculation that Motsepe could be influenced by external parties, September strongly dismissed such claims as “insulting and unfounded.”

He argued that Motsepe’s stature and reputation across the African continent make such allegations highly unlikely.

“I saw people saying he might be in the pockets of Morocco or whatever it is. It’s a very insulting thing… What would President Motsepe need from anyone?” he questioned.

September noted that Motsepe has extensive connections with African heads of state and is widely respected, often being addressed on a first-name basis by top leaders across the continent.

No Interference in Judicial Process

Reinforcing the integrity of CAF’s processes, September confirmed that Motsepe had no contact with the appeals committee during the decision-making process.

“I can assure you 100%… the chairman did not speak to President Motsepe about the decision at all,” he stated.

He added that Motsepe was not present during the hearings in Cairo and only received the verdict after the process had concluded.

“He got the verdict as a post-factor, and as it should be,” September said, warning against any interference in judicial processes.

Call for Integrity in Football Governance

September concluded by emphasizing the importance of maintaining integrity within football administration.

“The day the president of CAF gets involved and muddies judicial processes, we should be very afraid,” he warned.

His remarks come amid heightened debate within African football circles, underscoring the need for transparency, fairness, and adherence to established procedures in all CAF-related matters.
