Owino Calabar: Gor Mahia’s quality has gone down.

The Harambee Stars defender David Owino says that it is a concern that Gor Mahia FC has reduced the quality of players being signed by the club.

This after Gor Mahia lost their first leg play-off of the Caf Confederation Cup against Owino’s current side Napsa Stars on Sunday. Gor Mahia lost 1-0.

Owino, who was playing against his former side for the first since departing in 2015, has now admitted that the record champions are a shadow of their old self and something urgent needs to be done to save the situation.

Owino believes it is time for football stakeholders especially the managers to invest in clubs so they can perform well in continental football.

He however admits that the tie is not yet over.

“It was a tough game and I must laud my teammates for sticking to the game plan throughout,” Owino continued. “Our plan was to remain compact and take a chance and luckily it worked for us. The return game will not be easy; it will depend on how each team will prepare for the match.”

David Owino Odhiambo alias Calabar joined Gor Mahia from Sher Karuturi in 2012 and went on to win 2 league titles as well as two defender of the year awards before departing in 2015 to join Zambian side Zesco United.
