Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia were forced to settle for a point after a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Mara Sugar in a midweek clash played at the Raila Odinga Stadium Homa Bay (ROSH).
The match started with both sides showing attacking intent despite the lack of goals. Gor Mahia had an early opportunity in the 17th minute when Shariff Musa tested the goalkeeper with a decent effort, but the attempt was comfortably saved.
K’Ogalo continued pressing for the opener and came close again in the 34th minute. Striker Patrick Essombe found himself with only the keeper to beat, but his effort went wide, leaving the scores level.
At halftime, the two teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 despite several chances created in an entertaining opening 45 minutes.
The second half began with Mara Sugar making a change as Sylvester made way for Kapen in the 47th minute in a bid to inject fresh energy into the contest.
Gor Mahia coach then responded with a triple substitution in the 63rd minute, introducing Bandi, Morrison, and Ben Stanley for Alpha, Ochuoga, and Dwang respectively as the champions searched for a breakthrough.
Another change followed in the 77th minute when Chris replaced Essombe upfront, but Mara Sugar’s defense stood firm to deny the visitors.
After 90 minutes, neither side could find the decisive goal as the match ended in a stalemate.
The result sees Gor Mahia move to 69 points as they continue preparations for Sunday’s celebrations at Nyayo National Stadium.
