In the aftermath of a bruising 3–0 defeat to Gor Mahia, Batoto ba Mungu have moved decisively, suspending head coach Ezekiel Akwana indefinitely as pressure from supporters reached boiling point. The loss, played under the glare of a charged Nyayo atmosphere, exposed familiar problems, shaky defending, blunt attack, and a team that looked short on ideas.

For many fans, the Gor Mahia defeat was not just another loss, but the final straw in a run of performances that have steadily drained belief. Chants from the stands and heated reactions online painted a clear picture: change was inevitable.

Assistant coach Juma Abdal has now been handed the responsibility of steering the club as interim head coach. He inherits a wounded squad and a restless fan base desperate for a response, not just in results, but in identity, fight, and accountability.

The spotlight will be firmly on Abdal in the coming fixtures as Sofapaka attempt to arrest their slide and reconnect with supporters who feel the club has lost its way. Whether this move brings a turnaround or simply buys time remains to be seen,  but for now, Sofapaka fans have their moment of reckoning

For Gor Mahia fans, the result was another statement of intent in the title race, dominant, clinical, and unforgiving. For Sofapaka, it was a painful reminder of how far they’ve fallen, with K’Ogalo once again proving to be the ultimate measuring stick in the league.

Nyayo was green, loud, and merciless, and when Gor Mahia turned up the heat, Sofapaka burned.
