The departure of Austin Odhiambo has left a deep emotional and tactical gap in the Gor Mahia squad, and every true K’Ogalo fan feels it. Austin wasn’t just a midfielder,  he was the heartbeat of our play, the link between midfield and attack, the player who could unlock defenses when things got tough.

Head coach Charles Akonnor has now broken his silence, confirming that the club will bring in one or two new players to reinforce the squad following Austin’s exit.

Speaking to Daily Nation, Akonnor paid special tribute to the midfielder who gave his best years to the Green Army.

“Austin is a good player. He served this club for a long time and has been a faithful servant. He was an important player for us, but we had to allow him to leave because he received an opportunity that allows him to make more money.”

For fans, this wasn’t just a transfer, it was a moment of pride. Gor Mahia has always been a stepping stone to bigger opportunities, and Austin earned his move through sweat, discipline, and consistency.

But football doesn’t wait, and K’Ogalo must move forward.

Akonnor has made it clear that the technical bench is actively hunting for a replacement with the same DNA — a creative force who can score goals, dictate tempo, and create chances in tight matches.

“We are looking for a player with a similar playing style to Austin — a playmaker, someone who can score goals and create chances.”

The rebuilding has already started. Gor Mahia have secured the signing of Jackson Dwang from Posta Rangers, a hardworking midfielder known for his energy and discipline. While Dwang brings stability, fans know the club still needs that creative spark, the kind that makes the crowd rise from their seats at Nyayo or Kasarani.

With the transfer window still open, more arrivals are expected, and the message from the club is clear: Gor Mahia is not rebuilding to survive, it is rebuilding to dominate.

Austin Odhiambo leaves with our respect.
The jersey remains heavy.
The standards remain high.
