Gor Mahia Fans Declare Tom Mboya Statue ‘Out of Bounds’ Ahead of KPL Title Celebrations

Arsenal fans in Kenya have been humorously but firmly advised by Gor Mahia supporters to seek an alternative venue for any possible UEFA Champions League celebrations this Sunday, as the iconic Tom Mboya Monument area near Kenya National Archives has officially been “booked” by K’Ogalo faithful.

The warning comes as Gor Mahia prepare for a historic coronation after clinching their 22nd Kenya Premier League title. The champions will be officially crowned on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the iconic Nyayo National Stadium after their final league match against Nairobi United.

Following the trophy presentation, massive celebrations are expected to spill into Nairobi CBD, with thousands of fans expected to gather around the Tom Mboya Statue — a symbolic landmark many Gor Mahia supporters consider sacred due to Tom Mboya’s historical connection with the club as its first patron.

One passionate fan jokingly declared:

“Dear Arsenal fans Kenya, on Sunday, TOM MBOYA Archives is out of bounds whether Arsenal wins Champions League or not. We GOR MAHIA FANS will be using that place from 4am Sunday to 9pm Sunday. Kik uchandwa.”

The statement, though playful, reflects the deep emotional attachment local football supporters have towards Kenyan football culture and identity. Many fans insist that while European football enjoys huge support in Kenya, local football achievements deserve equal respect and space.

A sea of green and white is expected to dominate the city center after the match, with singing, dancing and chants likely to take over the streets from Nyayo Stadium all the way to the Archives area.

Supporters attending the celebrations have also been urged to maintain peace and celebrate responsibly as Nairobi braces for one of the biggest football celebrations in recent years.
