League leaders Gor Mahia will be aiming to extend their top position in the Kenya Premier League this Sunday when they travel to Dandora Stadium to face newcomers Nairobi United.
Currently leading with 23 points from 12 matches, Gor Mahia will compete against 11th-placed Nairobi United in what is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested matches of the season.
Nairobi United captain John Otieno has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to produce an upset against the record-breaking KPL champions, Gor Mahia, in the FKF Premier League clash scheduled for Sunday, December 21, 2025.

Speaking on Saturday, December 20, Otieno highlighted that the team aims to build upon their previous victory to surpass Charles Akonnor’s squad, which is currently second in the standings with 23 points.
This fixture pits Nairobi United against a recently victorious, but somewhat battered, opponent they narrowly edged to secure a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup in August. That triumph earned them the honour of representing Kenya in the prestigious inter-CAF clubs tournament.
Nairobi United’s impressive ascent this year includes defeating Gor Mahia 2-1 to claim the FKF Shield trophy, a significant achievement for the top-flight rookies. In addition to this trophy win, they earned promotion to Kenya’s premier football division, marking a remarkable breakthrough for the club.

“We have faced tough competition both in the Confederation Cup qualifiers and the league. Our league form hasn’t been perfect, but tomorrow’s match against a formidable opponent is a big challenge for us,” Otieno remarked.
The encounter at Dandora Stadium promises to be intense, as Nairobi United look to continue their impressive run, while Gor Mahia seeks to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz, which ended a stretch of three consecutive winless matches.
Gor Mahia’s head coach, Charles Akonnor, has assured fans of his team’s readiness for the upcoming fixture. He described the matchup as a highly anticipated derby between two teams with large, passionate supporter bases.
According to Akonnor, his players are in high spirits, feeling confident after recent positive results.
“Our confidence is back, and the players are prepared for what will be a fiery contest. With our fans here and the history between these teams, it promises to be an exciting match.
The match at Dandora Stadium is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 pm, with anticipation high for what promises to be a thrilling and competitive encounter.
