Gor Mahia’s impressive four-match winning streak came to an unexpected halt following a fiercely contested 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars at the Moi International Sports Stadium in Kasarani on Sunday, November 2.

Despite taking an early lead and showcasing a spirited performance, K’Ogalo couldn’t secure the victory in a match marked by intense battles and tactical adjustments in the second half.

Their efforts paid off in the sixth minute when Felix Oluoch took advantage of a defensive error, executing a brilliant back-flick that left the Ulinzi Stars goalkeeper floundering as the ball found its way into the net. The goal came from Wangai’s corner kick, giving the all-time champions an early lead and sending the home crowd into jubilant cheers.

Ulinzi Stars sprang into action in the 34th minute, as Boniface Muchiri unleashed a powerful strike from just outside the 18-yard box. The ball soared low and swift, evading the outstretched arms of Byrne Omondi and nestling into the net at his left side.

This stunning equalizer not only electrified the Ulinzi supporters but also ignited a spark of hope within the team. It marked a significant milestone—their first point gained under the leadership of interim head coach Stephen Ocholla—hinting at the dawn of a promising resurgence for the soldiers on the field.

The second half intensified as both teams sought to secure all three points. Gor Mahia made tactical substitutions, aiming to break the deadlock, but Ulinzi’s defenders, led by timely interventions from Timothy Odhiambo and Bryne Odhiambo, stood firm. The match saw several near-misses, with both sides committing to an aggressive style of play, yet disciplined defending kept the nets guarded.

Despite numerous efforts, neither team could find the winning goal. The match ended in a stalemate, leaving Gor Mahia to reflect on their inconsistency after an encouraging start to the season following their opening-day loss.

On the other hand, Ulinzi Stars, still eager to register their first win since September, remain in 16th position on the league table, just two points ahead of the bottom-placed APS Bomet, who have a game in hand. The result leaves both teams contemplating their next steps as they chase better form in upcoming fixtures.
