As the FKF Premier League season for 2024/2025 comes to an end, all-time champions Gor Mahia will face the season’s champions, Police FC, in a match at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi.

Kenya Police clinched the title last Sunday after winning their 33rd match, defeating Shabana FC 1-0 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. They only needed a draw to be crowned champions, making their victory even more significant.

Kenya Police leads the table with 64 points, holding an unassailable six-point lead over Gor Mahia, who are currently in second place with 58 points.

Gor Mahia is looking to conclude the season with a victory against Kenya Police. A win would earn them three additional points, raising their total to 61.

However, the Police team is determined not to disappoint in their final match, vowing to defeat the 2023/2024 champions on their home turf.

This season has been filled with ups and downs for Gor Mahia, who have struggled to meet their expected targets, disappointing both the team and its fans. They managed to secure maximum points against only five teams this season, compared to seven teams last season, where they finished with 74 points. Last season, they did not drop six points to any team, apart from allowing Kenya Police to take four points through a draw at home and a loss away.

The teams that Gor Mahia defeated this season include Kariobangi Sharks, Ulinzi Stars, Posta Rangers, Mathare United, and Mara Sugar, garnering a total of 30 points.

The most surprising results came from Nairobi City Stars, who took six points off the defending champions, becoming the only team to beat Gor Mahia both home and away.

Gor Mahia also earned two points in both home and away matches against AFC Leopards and Murang’a Seal, much to the disappointment of their followers.

In the first leg, Kenya Police secured three points against Gor Mahia, making this final game crucial for K’Ogalo to reduce their point deficit from nine to three.

In their last five encounters, both teams have had a fierce rivalry, with each winning two games and one match ending in a draw, highlighting the close competition between them.

Compounding their challenges this season, Gor Mahia changed coaches three times in one season, leading to questions from fans regarding the technical bench’s management and the players’ commitment.

This match will also mark the first time K’Ogalo has handed over the trophy to the new champions in front of their supporters at Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Ultimately, the battle remains one of pride and bragging rights between two of the league’s fiercest rivals.

The match kicks off at 3:00 PM.
