Gor Mahia midfielder Alpha Onyango expressed his excitement after scoring during the FKF Cup semi-final against Murang’a Seal.
Playing as a deep-lying playmaker, Onyango has been making a habit of finding the net from more advanced positions.
In a post-match interview, he described his goal, which came from the edge of the box after he skillfully turned to deliver a powerful shot.
“When I received the ball, I discovered I would attempt the shot at goal upon taking the turn since I had space”, Onyango said.
Although Gor Mahia led 2-1 with his goal, Murang’a Seal managed to equalize, leading to a penalty shootout that Gor Mahia won 5-3. Onyango noted the significance of his goal for his personal growth and stated his determination to continue scoring in the upcoming final.
“It shows that I am growing. Every chance I get to find the back of the net, I have to make an attempt. I am grateful to have found the back of the net, and hope my run will continue in the final”, he added.
Named man of the match, Onyango received a reward of 100,000 Kenyan Shillings from the sponsor, Mozzart Bet, which he plans to share with the three academies that played a role in his development as a player. He expressed his commitment to supporting these local teams.
“Three academies are being created near where I grew up (Makongeni). I will try to give those teams over there something for them to get.” he continued
Looking ahead, he acknowledged the challenge of the final, emphasizing that it would be a tough match against either Nairobi United or Mara Sugar.
“We are prepared and ready to face anybody. It’s a final, and therefore it will be a tough match regardless of the opponent,” said Onyango.
