Mashemeji Derby News

No venue yet for Sunday Mashemeji Derby

The Sunday Mashemeji Derby pitting Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards is in doubt after the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, has not received approval to host the event.

Reports from the African football governing body, CAF, have raised concerns about the stadium’s suitability, as it is still undergoing renovations. The venue had been designated to host one of the most-watched derbies in Africa, scheduled for Sunday, May 11th, 2025, but these recent developments might lead to a postponement.

Gor Mahia, the host team, inspected the facility on Monday and expected it to be ready for the match. However, in a twist of events, CAF communicated that it would be unsafe for fans and players to be in a venue still under renovation without a proper assessment.

K’Ogalo is currently awaiting communication from Kenya’s football governing body, FKF, for further guidance.
