Gor Mahia defender Mike Kibwage has expressed his excitement ahead of making his CAF Champions League debut with the Kenyan champions next season, describing the opportunity as the fulfillment of a long-held career ambition.
The former AFC Leopards and Tusker FC defender believes his move to Gor Mahia FC has opened the door to one of the biggest moments of his football career.
Speaking to Mozzart, Kibwage reflected on his journey and the significance of earning a place in Africa’s premier club competition.
“Destiny can be delayed, but it can never be denied,” Kibwage said.
The experienced centre-back revealed that while he has previously featured in continental football, the CAF Champions League presents a completely different challenge and level of prestige.
“This will be my second experience playing in a CAF competition. The first time was with AFC Leopards in the Confederation Cup after we won the GOtv Cup. But getting the opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League is something very special and highly motivating.”
For Kibwage, participating in the continent’s elite club tournament represents more than just another competition. It is an opportunity to test himself against Africa’s best players and clubs while continuing his personal development.
“Every player dreams of competing on the biggest stages. Playing in Africa has always been one of my career ambitions, and I believe this opportunity has come at the right moment.”
The defender added that the experience will be crucial in helping him elevate his game and gain valuable exposure at the highest level of African club football.
“It will help me grow as a player, gain more experience and improve further. I am really eager to experience the atmosphere and see what the CAF Champions League is all about.”
Kibwage is expected to play a key role in Gor Mahia’s continental campaign as K’Ogalo seeks to make a strong impression in the CAF Champions League and challenge some of Africa’s most established clubs.
With the draw and preparations for the new continental season on the horizon, the defender’s enthusiasm reflects the determination within the Gor Mahia camp as they prepare to carry Kenya’s hopes onto the continental stage.
