The 2025/26 season will forever be remembered as one of the toughest yet most rewarding campaigns in the glorious history of Gor Mahia.

From painful defeats, fan outrage, shocking upsets and controversial fixtures, K’Ogalo battled through every storm before finally reclaiming their place at the summit of Kenyan football and booking a return to continental football in the CAF Champions League.

For the Green Army, this was not just a title win, it was a journey of resilience, belief and redemption.

A Nightmare Start Under Charles Akonnor

The season began with huge expectations as new head coach Charles Akonnor took charge of his first league match for K’Ogalo.

But the opening clash against Bidco United at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on September 21, 2025 turned into an early nightmare.

Gor Mahia vs Bidco at Kasarani

Gor Mahia suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat, leaving fans frustrated and demanding answers. Bidco’s Newton Ochieng stunned K’Ogalo with an 88th-minute winner in what became one of the club’s most disappointing season openers in recent memory.

The pressure immediately mounted on Akonnor and his technical bench.

The Response of Champions

True champions respond to adversity and Gor Mahia did exactly that.

A week later against Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium, new signing Ebenezer Adukwaw announced himself in style with a brilliant brace in a commanding 2-0 victory. Confidence slowly returned to the squad.

Another hard-fought 1-0 win over KCB FC followed on October 5, with Adukwaw once again delivering the decisive goal despite Austin Odhiambo missing a late penalty.

Momentum quickly built as K’Ogalo dismantled Posta Rangers 3-0 before beating Mathare United 2-0. The champions looked ready for takeoff.

The APS Bomet Humiliation

Just as Gor Mahia appeared unstoppable, disaster struck again.

A 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars slowed their momentum before victories over Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC restored confidence. Then came the unthinkable.

League newcomers APS Bomet humiliated Gor Mahia 4-1 at Kasarani on November 25, 2025, one of the heaviest and most shocking defeats K’Ogalo had suffered in recent years.

The result sent shockwaves across Kenyan football.

Mashemeji Derby Pain

Things went from bad to worse in the Mashemeji Derby. Arch-rivals AFC Leopards defeated Gor Mahia at Nyayo National Stadium on December 7, 2025 in front of a packed crowd.

Losing back-to-back matches, especially against Ingwe triggered massive outrage from the Green Army. Fans questioned the team’s mentality, tactics and title credentials.

Despite the pressure, Akonnor and his assistant Kobi-Mensah Bismark remained calm and urged supporters to trust the process.

Recovery and the Turning Point

Gor Mahia slowly regained rhythm. A draw away to Bandari FC was followed by wins against Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks before a frustrating goalless draw against Shabana FC in Kisii.

But after that stalemate, K’Ogalo exploded into life.

They defeated Murang’a Seal 3-2, crushed Mara Sugar 3-0, beat Bidco again and comfortably handled Sofapaka.

The champions were finally finding consistency.

The Nairobi United Chaos

One of the season’s most controversial moments came against Nairobi United at Dandora Stadium.

The match was abandoned early in the second half due to crowd trouble, creating a legal and administrative battle that remains unresolved after conflicting rulings.

The fixture became one of the defining talking points of the season.

Revenge Against APS Bomet

When Gor Mahia travelled to Kericho Green Stadium for the return leg against APS Bomet, revenge was on the menu.

K’Ogalo fought hard to secure a narrow 2-1 victory, finally erasing memories of the painful first-leg humiliation.

That win symbolized the team’s growth, maturity and determination to fight through adversity.

Alpha Onyango’s Derby Moment

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the entire campaign arrived on April 26, 2026.

Nyayo National Stadium hosted another explosive Mashemeji Derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

With AFC carrying bragging rights from the first-leg victory, tensions were sky-high.

Then captain Alpha Onyango produced a magical 82nd-minute winner that silenced the Ingwe faithful and sent the Green Army into wild celebrations.

That goal changed the title race completely. AFC Leopards never truly recovered from that painful defeat.

Champions Once Again

Gor Mahia closed the season strongly with crucial results against Kakamega Homeboyz, Kenya Police and Murang’a Seal.

By the time the title race entered its final stretch, K’Ogalo had built an unassailable lead at the top with 68 points, while AFC Leopards trailed behind on 64 points with only one match left.

The journey had been painful, emotional, dramatic and unforgettable.

But in the end, Gor Mahia proved once again why they remain Kenya’s most successful football club.

Through storms, criticism and setbacks, K’Ogalo stood tall, champions of Kenya once more and ready to fly the nation’s flag again on the continental stage in the CAF Champions League.
