Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars, concluded their FIFA Series 2026 campaign in Kigali on a high, securing a third-place finish after a dominant 3-0 win over Grenada.

The performance capped off a competitive outing for the Kenyan side, who showed resilience and growth despite narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Tough Start Against Estonia

Harambee Stars opened their campaign with a hard-fought encounter against Estonia, settling for a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The match proceeded to penalties, where Kenya suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat.

While the result was disappointing, it offered key lessons in composure and decision-making under pressure.

Strong Finish Against Grenada

Kenya bounced back in style in the third-place playoff, overpowering Grenada with a convincing 3-0 victory.

Goals from Austin Odhiambo, Ryan Ogam, and Zech Obiero ensured a comfortable win, with the team displaying attacking intent, defensive solidity, and improved coordination across the pitch.

Omondi’s Message Reflects Team Mentality

Following the victory, Ben Stanley Omondi, the Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars midfielder, took to his social media platforms to share a powerful message that captured the spirit within the squad.

“The price we pay to play this game… don’t let them get into your head 💪🇰🇪”

His statement underscored the mental strength and sacrifices required to compete at the highest level, resonating with fans and highlighting the unity within the national team setup.

Positive Signs Ahead of AFCON 2027

Under head coach Benni McCarthy, Harambee Stars continue to show signs of progress. The team’s response against Grenada, in particular, demonstrated character and tactical improvement.

The tournament served as important preparation ahead of the AFCON 2027, which Kenya will co-host.

Growing Confidence for Club and Country

For Gor Mahia supporters, Omondi’s presence in the national team remains a source of pride, as local talent continues to play a key role in Kenya’s resurgence.

Although Harambee Stars fell just short of the final, their third-place finish and overall performances in Kigali signal a team building momentum and belief for the future.
