Rising Kenyan football sensation Manzur Okwaro has taken a significant step onto the continental stage after securing a prestigious nomination at the upcoming Africa Golden Awards 2026.

The Harambee Stars utility man has been shortlisted for the Top Young Generation African Sports Talent award, an honor that recognizes emerging athletes shaping the future of African sport.

A Breakout Moment on the Continental Stage

Okwaro’s nomination is largely credited to his standout performances at the African Nations Championship 2024, where he announced himself as one of Kenya’s brightest young prospects.

At just 18, he became a key figure under head coach Benni McCarthy, showcasing maturity, tactical intelligence, and versatility beyond his years.

From Centre-Back to Midfield Engine

Initially known as a commanding centre-back at KCB FC, Okwaro was boldly redeployed into a defensive midfield role during the tournament—a decision that proved transformative.

He featured in every match for Kenya, dictating tempo, breaking opposition play, and providing a crucial link between defense and attack. His adaptability and consistency made him one of the standout performers of the competition.

High Stakes at the Africa Golden Awards

The Africa Golden Awards 2026 will take place on May 2, 2026, bringing together top talents from across the continent in a celebration of sporting excellence.

The stakes are substantial:

  • Category winners will receive a $5,000 Golden Grant
  • The overall most-voted athlete will secure a $50,000 grand prize

Beyond the financial rewards, the recognition offers a powerful platform for young athletes to elevate their careers internationally.

A Nation’s Vote Matters

With public voting playing a decisive role, Okwaro’s success now hinges on national support. Voting officially opens on March 20, 2026, with fans encouraged to rally behind the young star.

For Kenya, this nomination is more than individual success,it’s a symbol of a new generation rising, and Manzur Okwaro is right at the heart of it.
