Frank Odhiambo Returns to Gor Mahia on a Mission as Green Army Reaps Instant Rewards

Frank Odhiambo did not return to Gor Mahia FC to settle in quietly. He came back with a mission, and within two games, the signs are already impossible to ignore.

The Harambee Stars defender has hit the ground running since rejoining K’Ogalo in January 2026, playing a key role in two positive results for the record champions. His impact was immediate, capped by a crucial goal against Sofapaka, a moment that reminded the Green Army exactly what they had been missing.

Odhiambo’s first game back, away to Bidco United, set the tone. Gor Mahia found themselves trailing 1-0, but with the 23-year-old marshalling the backline with authority and confidence, K’Ogalo rallied to claim a fighting 2-1 comeback victory. It was the kind of response that speaks volumes about leadership, belief, and composure.

Born on 29 October 2002 in Nyeri, Odhiambo is primarily a central defender, but one whose game has evolved beyond raw defending. A product of Gor Mahia’s system, he broke into the first team as a teenager, quickly earning praise for his reading of the game, aerial dominance, and calmness under pressure.

In January 2022, his journey took a bold step forward when he signed for Swedish giants DjurgƄrdens IF, following in the footsteps of Kenyan star Michael Olunga. While in Sweden, Odhiambo gained invaluable experience through loan spells at IFK Haninge, Vasalunds IF, AFC Eskilstuna, and IF Karlstad, sharpening his tactical understanding and physical game in a demanding European environment.

After several seasons abroad, the defender returned home in January 2026, older, tougher, and far more complete.

Internationally, Odhiambo has represented Kenya at the youth level and earned caps with the senior national team, Harambee Stars, further underlining his pedigree and growing stature.

Gor Mahia confirmed his return through their official social media platforms, announcing that the Kenyan international had signed a two-year contract. This move significantly boosts the club’s defensive options as they push for continued dominance locally and on the continental stage.

Frank Odhiambo’s return comes at a critical moment. Known for his aerial prowess, physical strength, and composure on the ball, the centre-back looks every bit ready to slot straight into the starting XI. His time in Sweden has clearly refined his tactical awareness, transforming him into a more mature and commanding presence compared to the youngster who left.

Two games in, one goal scored, and calm restored at the back, the message is clear.

Frank Odhiambo is home.
And he means business.
