In a heartwarming reunion, Jonathan McKinstry, the head coach of the Gambia national football team, paid a visit to his former club, Gor Mahia, at the Kasarani Annexe on September 5, 2025.

This visit came on the heels of a significant victory for the Gambia team, which triumphed over Kenya’s Harambee Stars with a convincing 3-1 scoreline in the World Cup Qualifiers held at the iconic Kasarani Stadium.

As McKinstry stepped onto the training ground, a wave of nostalgia swept over him, recalling his memorable tenure with K’Ogalo, where he left an indelible mark on the club’s history.

Since departing Gor Mahia in 2024, he has taken the reins of The Scorpions, leading them to impressive heights in international football. His legacy at Gor Mahia includes securing two Kenya Premier League (KPL) titles and mentoring many of the current players who continue to represent the club with pride.

During his visit, McKinstry’s presence was a source of inspiration as he interacted with players and coaching staff. He expressed his pride in their recent performances, particularly as K’Ogalo prepared for a friendly match against Posta Rangers.

The team showcased their skills in this encounter, winning 2-0 with goals from the talented Mark Shaban and the newly signed Felix Oluoch, further demonstrating the talent pool that McKinstry helped nurture during his time at the club.

The reunion underscored the bonds formed in football, as McKinstry took a moment to reflect on the growth of his former players and the strides they are making in the league.

The visit not only served as a morale boost for Gor Mahia but also highlighted the enduring connection between the coach and the club that once made him a household name in Kenyan football.

As he left the training ground, McKinstry carried with him the warm wishes of the Gor Mahia community, hopeful for future collaborations on and off the field.
