Gor Mahia Depart for CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar

The 2023/24 FKF Premier League champions, Gor Mahia, are set to travel tonight to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup, eager to compete against the region’s top clubs.

Fresh from securing their record 21st league title, K’ogallo will face Al Hilal from Sudan, Red Arrows from Zambia, and Telecom from Djibouti in Group B.

Group A includes Coastal Union (Tanzania), Alwadi (Sudan), JKU (Zanzibar), and Dekaheda FC (Somalia). Group C features Sports Club Villa (Uganda), APR FC (Rwanda), Singida Black Stars (Tanzania), and Al Mereik Bentui (South Sudan).

Gor Mahia will begin their campaign against Red Arrows on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 9 PM. They will then play against Telecom on Saturday, July 13, and conclude their group stage fixtures against Al Hilal on Tuesday, July 16, at 4 PM. The matches will be held at the Azam Sports Complex.

The tournament winner will receive a prize of KES 3,819,600, with the runners-up earning KES 2,546,400 and the third-place team taking home KES 1,273,200.

K’ogallo will also use this tournament to prepare for the upcoming 2024/25 FKF Premier League, which kicks off in late August. The record champions will return to continental football for the first time since 2021.
