Striker Ephrem Guikan was the main man as Gor Mahia walloped Zoo Kericho 4-0 in a league match at Kasarani stadium today.

Guikan scored what will remain to be the fastest goal ever scored into a match in Kenyan football history. The Ivorian got on the scoresheet 15 seconds after the kick off whistle and would go on to nail his second goal of the match 14 minutes later through a spot kick after Samuel Onyango was brought down in the area.

On the 39th minute, Guikan was involved in the third goal as he set Samuel Onyango through with a neat pass to pile more miseries on the Kericho based team and 3-0 the score board read.

A state of confusion it was for the visitors as Gor Mahia hugely dominated the opening half with the score line clearly reflecting what was happening on the pitch – a one sided match.

It would have been worse for Zoo Kericho had Gor Mahia utilized even half of the chances created in the first 45 minutes.

Second half was rather better for Zoo as they contained pressure from Gor but for how long was that going to last? It took the efforts and brilliance of Ugandan Erisa Ssekisambu to score a beauty on the 72nd minute after coming on as a substitute.

Just two minutes after Ssekisambu opened his goal account at Gor Mahia, a setback came when midfielder Francis Kahata was shown a straight red card after being involved in an off the ball incident with an opponent player.

Both players were sent to the changing rooms for an early shower and that meant that each of the two sides remained a man less with about 20 minutes left. Other Gor Mahia players who were also booked earlier on were goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch and Ernest Wendo.

Worth noting, is the fantastic display by defender Pascal Ogweno who was handed his first match at Gor Mahia. The centre-back partnered well with captain Haron Shakava to put a solid back line that proved too hard for the opponents to crack. Such was a display that showed another great figure at the back and that will mean one thing – there will be stiff competition for positions at the centre-back.

The big and deserved win is coming after the weekend’s loss to Bandari and it will be considered as a morale booster as the reigning league champions host Lobi Stars of Nigeria in CAF Champions League group stage qualifier match this coming Sunday at Kasarani stadium.
