Reigning champions Gor Mahia on Thursday 18th raised 4 million Kenyan shillings towards logistical arrangements for their CAF Confederation Cup second round knock-out stage against Congo side AS Otôho d’Oyo to be played on Sunday 28th November 2021 at Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat in Brazzaville – Congo.
The fundraiser was attended by Club Patron and Prime Minister Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, Homabay County Governor Cyprian Awiti, and other politicians.
The Prime Minister donated Sh. 1 million in cash while Governor Awiti gave out 700k as well as 20 balls, 40 tracksuits, and 40 training kits.
Other contributors to the kitty were the former FKF president Sam Nyamweya who gave Ksh100,000 while Members of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi gave Kshs. 200,000 while Elisha Odhiambo, James Nyikal, and Mark Nyamita, gave Ksh100,000 each.
The club’s general-secretary Sam Ocholla, vice-chairman Francis Wasuna each contributed Ksh5000, while the treasurer, Dolfina Odhiambo, availed Ksh1000.
However, the 4 million contributions fall short of the target needed for logistical and fans well-wishers have been asked to send their contributions via the Pay Bill number 350100.
The return leg is scheduled for 5th, December 2021 at Nyayo stadium after K’ogalo were given green light to host the game. The return fixture was in doubt following a ban imposed on the stadium imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). According to the club
“Caf has given us the green-light to use the Nyayo National Stadium for our game against AS Otoho d’Oyo but have insisted that we get another venue if we qualify for the group stages which kick off in February if the stadium remains in its current state,” Gor Mahia Sporting Director Lordvick Aduda said during an interview with goal.com.
