Gor Mahia midfielder Kenneth Muguna has called on his team to have a soul-searching moment following their 2-1 loss against Tusker which left them eleven points away from the Brewers who currently top the Football Kenya Federation Premier League standings.

The talismanic ex-skipper fell short of conceding the league title to leaders Tusker as he talked down K’Ogalo’s chances of another rally this season.

And despite finding his ninth assist of the season that took him top of the providers’ chart, Muguna, who was also crowned the Most Valuable Player in the just concluded Football Kenya Federation Cup, rued that his personal numbers and feats count for nothing if his team cannot register wins.

“Individually, it is great but I think it is not enough because we are dropping points and the league is coming to an end, so it is something that is worrying me. Sometimes it would feel even better if I do not provide an assist but the team goes on to get the three points because, in the end, that is what matters,” Muguna told Mozzart Sport.

Despite struggling for a majority of the first half of the season, Gor had brought themselves back into title contention following an impeccable seven-match winning run that had narrowed the gap between them and Tusker to only five points at the near end of June. But in the club picking only two points from the available 12 in their last four meetings, Muguna, while promising to push till the end, has admitted how herculean a task it will be if they are to defend their title with only nine games left till the season folds up.

“We cannot deny the fact that the league is now slipping further and further away from us because the game against Tusker was very crucial to us. Maybe we now need to react as quickly as possible after the loss and we are still not giving up as we intend to fight till the last minute,” the player said.

Currently, the record Kenyan champions sit fourth on the log on 39 points.
