Gor Mahia tactician Carlos Manuel Vaz pinto has called on Football Kenya Federation to rescind its June 30 deadline and hand the team CAF slot if the league wouldn’t be played to a conclusion.
The 47 years old Portuguese coach said the decision to hand the team leading by the said date CAF champions league slot is not anchored in any football law.
Pinto insists that by then not even 75 percent of the matches shall be played according to the law stated by the Football Kenya Federation, hence Gor by virtue of being defending champions should be allowed to represent the country for the fourth season in a row.
“We as Gor Mahia we follow the rules of CAF and FKF should have followed them too because CAF follows rules OF FIFA which are followed by all federation, “Manuel Vaz pinto told Kenyaonlinenews.
“On FKF decision, Federations follow rules of FIFA and they cannot change them. If you did not play 75% of the games you indicate the last champions, and this is the rule of FIFA, CAF and other federations have to wait and follow the rules of CAF,”
The Portuguese tactician further claims the decision to pick the top-flight winner by the end of june would not lead to equality as teams would not have played equal matches hence calling it as an unfair decision.
“I don’t think if by June 30th all teams will have played equal matches because we have three matches to play(Gor Mahia) by the said date and other teams like Tusker have four, we will have a game less which is not fair. We have to wait and follow the rules of CAF.
The 2019-2020 season Gor were declared champions for being at the top of the table following the outbreak of Covid-19, with the current season FKF confirmed the leading team on June 30, the deadline provided by CAF for submission for representative clubs will be given the slot to represent the country in the 2021-2022 champions league.
With three fixture remaining to beat the deadline,Tusker are currently leading the 18-team table with 38 points, while KCB are second on 36 points, the same as Leopards while Gor are fourth on 31 points from 17 outings.
