Defending champions Gor Mahia take their hunt for a third league victory to the lakeside city of Kisumu where relegation battling Western Stima lies in wait.

K’Ogalo received a major boost last week when they finally contracted an accredited coach in Portuguese Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto whose first foray into the technical area yielded three points.

In Kisumu today, Western Stima will take their chances against K’Ogalo whose ranks are brimming with half dozen ex Stima players.

The two teams are separated by a mere point but Gor Mahia have played far fewer games than Stima.

Prevailing stability in the erstwhile feuding Gor Mahia boardroom seems to have set an amiable aura for the playing unit to thrive. With K’Ogalo trailing runaway leaders KCB by a whopping 12 points, the record Kenyan champions must take maximum points in her three games in hand to make ground.

Stima is the first of the three games making this evening’s clash integral in K’Ogalo’s pursuit of another feather to their crown.

A stima versus Gor Mahia affair has never been easy. Gor Mahia has one victory over today’s opponents since 2017.

With financial woes dogging Stima though, the Kisumu-based side has odds stacked up against them as a Gor Mahia team itching to sharpen their performance following a lackluster start to the season come calling.

Stima last drew one-nil with Nzoia Sugar with ex Gor Mahia forward Baron Jobita netting in the 6th minute before the Kanduyi-based sugar millers levelled.

K’Ogalo, on the other hand, thrashed city rivals Mathare United 3-1 in an ill-tempered match that resulted in forwards Nicholas Kipkirui and James Kinyanjui of Mathare United getting sent off.

“We have established a great training atmosphere and are hoping great results will keep streaming in. The team obviously has some weaknesses which we try every day to address. We wil get them playing the way Gor Mahia should,” Pinto said
