Ondiek grabs late winner as Gor Mahia beat Big Bullets

Midfielder Bernard Ondiek scored in added time to help Gor Mahia beat Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 in first leg of CAF group stage qualifier match at Kasarani stadium tonight.

Gor Mahia struggled to get into their rhythm against a defensive Bullets side that seemed content to settle for a draw. While dominating most of the play, K’Ogalo lacked a cutting edge in the final third and did not trouble the Malawian keeper much in the first half.

Gor Mahia lost top striker Jacques Tuyisenge early on through injury and was replaced by Samuel Onyango who moved into the flanks allowing debutant Erissa Ssekisambu to operate from a central striking position.

Gor Mahia were better side in the second half and had the ball in the back of the net in the 53rd minute but it was ruled out for offside.

Burundian Mustafa Francis and Bernard Ondiek came on for Ssekisambu and Kenneth Muguna as K’Ogalo looked to find the elusive goal.

Despite the increased urgency, it was not until deep into stoppage that Humphrey Mieno’s pass set up Ondiek for the decisive goal – his fourth  for the club since joining last year.
