Gor Mahia beat Rangers to progress in Shield tournament

Gor Mahia continued with their good run after beating Posta Rangers 3-1 in Sportpesa Shield tournament at Kasarani today.

A brace from Kevin Omondi and a neat finish from Samuel Onyango were enough to seal it off for Gor Mahia against an experienced Rangers side.

Omondi opened the score sheet on the 34th minute when he pounced on a chance after Posta Rangers defender Jockins Atudo failed to control the ball well from a Simon Mbugua pass.

The second goal would come in the second half on the 52nd minute when Lawrence Juma placed the ball on Omondi’s path. He weaved his way into the box past two defenders and on to the touchline before looping the ball across and his effort would go straight into the net from a tight angle – thanks to poor goalkeeping.

Former Gor Mahia striker Paul Odhiambo pulled one back for Rangers on the 63rd minute and hopes for an equalizer were high for Sammy Omollo’s side.

Seven minutes later, Rangers hopes were dealt a blow when the chief architect of the day Lawrence Juma provided another great assist to Samuel Onyango who placed the ball to far left of the Rangers custodian to make it three and stretch it beyond their opponents.

3-1 it ended and Gor Mahia are through to the next stage of the tournament.

K’Ogalo will be traveling to Tanzania on Friday night to play Young Africans on Sunday in Caf Confederation Cup match.s
