Kenya’s champions Gor Mahia supporters have been dealt a painful transfer blow after Kenyan Premier League Most Valuable Player Enock Morrison officially completed his move to Sudanese powerhouse Al Merrikh SC on a three-year contract.
The Ghanaian midfield general leaves K’Ogalo as a champion, a fan favorite, and one of the most influential players in the club’s recent history. Reports indicate that Morrison joins the Sudanese giants on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Gor Mahia, meaning the record Kenyan champions will not receive a transfer fee for one of their most prized assets.
His departure marks the end of a remarkable two-year journey that saw him transform from a new signing into the heartbeat of Gor Mahia’s midfield. Morrison arrived from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in July 2024 and quickly established himself as one of the most complete midfielders in the FKF Premier League.
From Midfield Engine to League MVP
The 2025/26 season will forever be remembered as Morrison’s masterpiece. The 26-year-old played a pivotal role in guiding Gor Mahia back to the summit of Kenyan football, helping the club reclaim the league title while producing consistently outstanding performances throughout the campaign. His creativity, leadership, composure and relentless work rate made him indispensable to coach Charles Akonnor’s side.
His efforts did not go unnoticed.
At the end of the season, Morrison swept major individual honors, winning both the Midfielder of the Season award and the coveted SportPesa League MVP crown after spearheading Gor Mahia’s championship-winning campaign.
For many K’Ogalo faithful, he was more than just a player. He was the rhythm of the team, the calming presence in difficult moments, and often the difference between victory and defeat.
A Painful Goodbye for Gor Mahia
While player departures are part of football, Morrison’s exit feels particularly painful.
Not only are Gor Mahia losing the league’s best player, but they are also losing a leader whose influence extended beyond the pitch. His professionalism, humility and connection with supporters earned him immense respect throughout Kenyan football.
The fact that he leaves without generating a transfer fee will further sting supporters, especially at a time when the club is seeking stability and strengthening ahead of continental assignments.
Replacing a player of Morrison’s quality will be no easy task.
New Challenge in Sudan
For Morrison, however, the move represents a major step forward in his career. Al Merrikh remain one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, with a rich history in continental football and a reputation for attracting elite talent from across the continent.
The Sudanese giants believe Morrison’s experience, leadership and winning mentality will strengthen their ambitions in domestic and continental competitions. As one chapter closes in Nairobi, another begins in Sudan.
Thank You, Morrison
In football, legends are not measured only by the number of years they spend at a club but by the impact they leave behind.
In just two seasons, Enock Morrison won a league title, captured the hearts of Gor Mahia fans, and walked away as the league’s Most Valuable Player. His contribution to K’Ogalo’s return to glory will not be forgotten anytime soon.
As the Ghanaian midfielder embarks on a new adventure with Al Merrikh, Gor Mahia supporters can only say one thing:
Thank you, Morrison. The midfield magician may be leaving, but his legacy at K’Ogalo will endure.
