Kenya’s All-time Champions Gor Mahia FC returned to training on Tuesday, determined to bounce back from their disappointing cup elimination, with the technical bench urging the squad to quickly refocus ahead of Sunday’s FKF Premier League clash against Ulinzi Stars.

Assistant coach Bismark Kobi did not hide the team’s frustration following the weekend result, describing the performance as below the club’s expectations.

“The cup exit result was not good and we needed the players to understand the embarrassment. What happened was unacceptable because this is Gor Mahia,” Kobi said after Tuesday’s training session.

According to the assistant coach, the players have already acknowledged their shortcomings and are now fully focused on the upcoming league fixture.

“The players have accepted that they disappointed us. Now we have moved on from that disappointment and the focus is on the Sunday game against Ulinzi. It is going to be a very tough match and we need to prepare very well.”

Tough Battle Expected

Kobi anticipates a demanding encounter, noting that both teams enter the match with strong motivations.

While Gor Mahia are pushing to maintain their position at the summit of the FKF Premier League table, Ulinzi Stars are battling to avoid slipping deeper into the relegation fight.

“It will be tough because they are battling against relegation while we are fighting to stay at the top of the table,” he explained.

Squad Fitness Update

On the injury front, the Gor Mahia technical bench reported only minor concerns within the squad.

Goalkeeper Felix Oluoch remains the only notable absentee, while striker Ebenezer Assifuah picked up a minor knock but still trained with the rest of the team.

“Apart from Felix Oluoch there are no major injury worries. Ebenezer Assifuah has a small knock but he trained with the rest of the team,” Kobi confirmed.

Strong League Form Despite Setback

Despite the disappointment in the cup competition, Kobi emphasized that Gor Mahia’s league form this year has been impressive.

Since the start of the year, the record Kenyan champions have played ten league matches, winning eight of them while scoring freely, a run that has helped them stay firmly in the title race.

“Even though we disappointed last Sunday, the team has done very well this season. Since the turn of the year we have played ten league matches, won eight of them and scored a lot of goals. We are on top of the league, so overall we are doing very well.”

Focus on Redemption

With the FKF Premier League title race intensifying, the Gor Mahia technical bench wants the players to transform their disappointment into motivation.

“Going into this game we have to stay focused. We have won some difficult matches already this season. We need to forget what has happened and instead look for the opportunity to respond for our supporters,” Kobi added.

“We are looking forward to Sunday because we want to respond very well.”

For Gor Mahia, the clash against Ulinzi Stars now presents the perfect opportunity to restore confidence and reaffirm their title credentials.
