Gor Mahia midfielder Alpha Onyango has hailed the team’s growing confidence and renewed work ethic following their 3–0 victory over Mara Sugar on Sunday, 18th, in a Kenya Premier League clash played at Nyayo National Stadium.
K’Ogalo took control of the match early, with goals from Felix Oluoch (14’), Shariff Musa (28’) and Samuel Kapen (84’) sealing a dominant afternoon performance that underlined the champions’ return to form.
Speaking after the match, Onyango said the team is finally rediscovering the rhythm that had been missing earlier in the season.
“Yeah, we are building momentum,” Onyango said.
“If you look back, we dropped a lot of points, but now we are picking up from where we left off after the Kakamega Homeboyz game. The momentum we are building will really help us in the matches that are coming.”
With Gor Mahia now scoring freely in recent outings, Onyango pointed to improved commitment across the squad as the key difference.
“I think it’s the work ethic and the commitment of the players,” he explained.
“You can see everyone is ready for tackles and willing to fight for the badge. That was not there in some of our previous matches, but now it’s helping us grow and improve.”
Gor Mahia’s win keeps them top of the KPL table with 33 points and a game in hand, level on points with AFC Leopards, but ahead on goal difference. Onyango believes being at the summit should be the standard at the club.
“Yes, it’s something we should expect,” he said confidently.
“We are Gor Mahia. Being at the top is where we belong, and we’ll work hard to maintain that position.”
K’Ogalo will now turn their attention to upcoming fixtures as they look to extend their lead and strengthen their push for another league title.
