Gor Mahia were compelled to settle for a 1-1 draw in a fiercely contested match against Bandari FC at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa today.

From the outset, Gor Mahia asserted dominance, controlling possession and setting the pace during much of the first half. Their efforts paid off shortly after the half-hour mark.

In the 31st minute, forward Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw delivered the opening goal with a composed finish, giving K’Ogalo a well-deserved lead and igniting the excitement among traveling supporters. This goal was set up by Musa Shariff, who skillfully outpaced his marker and delivered a precise low cross for Adu-Kwaw to convert.

The resilient Bandari side responded after halftime, mounting a strong comeback. Their perseverance was rewarded in the 58th minute when they earned a dangerous set-piece opportunity.

In the final 30 minutes, both teams intensified their efforts, engaging in an end-to-end battle that created tense moments for both defenses. Despite several promising attacks and scoring opportunities, neither side could find the winning goal. The whistle blew, confirming a hard-fought draw that reflected the competitive nature of the match.

Head coach Charles Akonnor expressed confidence that his team could have secured victory, emphasizing the number of chances they created.

“We had a solid game plan, and scoring early was a plus. We knew the field conditions limited our style of play, so we opted to go direct and press high,” Akonnor said.

He added, “In the second half, our intensity dropped a bit, but we still generated scoring chances. It required some clever play, and I believe we could have won today.”

With this draw, Gor Mahia remains at the league summit with 20 points, thanks to a superior goal difference. The team will now focus on preparing for their upcoming fixture. 1st
