In a significant move to enhance their squad, record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have officially signed Ugandan forward Mohamed Shaban Jagason from Libyan club Al Anwar.

The announcement comes as the club nears the conclusion of its transfer activities, following a season that fell short of expectations.

Shaban, who made his mark at Al Anwar after transferring from Al Hilal in February, is seen as a vital addition to a team that has been actively seeking to reinforce its attacking options.

The previous season proved challenging for Gor Mahia, as they finished second to Kenya Police FC in the league and suffered a loss in the final of the Mozzart Bet Cup against Nairobi United.

Acknowledging their weaknesses, the club identified the striking department as a particular area of concern, evidenced by the fact that creative midfielder Austin Odhiambo emerged as the club’s top scorer with just 12 goals.

In an exciting development, Shaban arrived in the country recently and has already begun training with the team, participating in his first session on Tuesday, September 2.

According to a source close to the club, “We have signed Shaban, whom we expect to be our point man upfront and supported by a pool of our attacking players, including the two Ghanaians we have also signed.”

Earlier reports indicated that the club was in advanced negotiations for Shaban, who had held discussions with deputy patron Eliud Owalo and chairman Ambrose Rachier during a recent trip to Uganda. Despite facing competition from Al Hilal of Sudan, Gor Mahia succeeded in securing the talented striker’s signature.

At 28, Shaban brings valuable experience, having represented the Uganda Cranes 22 times and scored twice on the international stage. His addition comes alongside Owalo’s revelation that the club is targeting two more quality strikers to complete their squad for the upcoming season.

With Shaban joining the ranks, he is expected to compete for the primary striker role alongside Harambee Stars forward Felix Oluoch and Veron Ombima, who both joined Gor Mahia from their respective clubs. The stage is set for a promising future as Gor Mahia aims to reclaim their dominant position in Kenyan football.
