Benson Omalla is making his exciting return to Gor Mahia after his time at the Lebanese club Al Safa didn’t go as planned due to the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Unfortunately, that situation forced him to set aside his hopes of heading back to Lebanon.
For now, his return to K’Ogalo is a temporary arrangement as he waits for his International Transfer Clearance (ITC) to be confirmed. Gor Mahia’s chairman has shown a lot of interest in having him back, but there’s still some uncertainty around his contract with Al Safa that could create challenges with FIFA.
“We haven’t discussed it with him yet. The details of his contract with Al Safa are still a bit foggy, and reaching out at this point might put us at risk with FIFA,” Rachier said in a recent interview.
Omalla was the star of the show in the 2023/2024 season, finishing as the top goal scorer in the Kenyan Premier League with an impressive 19 goals, and he played a key role in helping Gor Mahia secure the title. Other clubs had expressed interest in him, with Shaban FC impressively eager to sign him.
His return to the team will boost the attack, and head coach Sinisa Mihic has been hopeful about strengthening the squad.
“Honestly, we’re looking for more quality. We need new players upfront so that when substitutes come on, they can really make a difference. During our last match, some players just seemed to be strolling around, and we need more energy from the bench,” Mihic shared after a draw with Bidco United at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on February 20, 2025.
Fans can look forward to seeing Omalla back with the team on Monday, March 3, at the Safaricom MPESA Foundation training ground in Thika!
