Media watch: Nuttall seeks 21 million compensation from Gor Mahia

Trouble is brewing for Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier as he has been summoned to appear before the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi on July 18.

Rachier is required to show why he should not be jailed for failing to pay the club’s former coach Frank Nuttall compensation for wrongful termination as per court rulings.

Nuttall claimed that in November 2015, the club attempted to alter his contract by proposing a 50% pay cut instead of the 10% annual increment stipulated in his contract.

The former head coach who led Gor Mahia to unbeaten run in 2015 season also alleged that the chairman incited players to sabotage his work undermining his control over the team.

He described intolerable working conditions, including inadequate transport arrangements that sometimes forced him to use motorbikes.

“Nuttall took legal action, seeking compensation for various allowances and damages totaling Ksh21,688,489,” the outlet reported.

This included unpaid housing allowance (Ksh. 1,440,000), car allowance (Ksh. 3,360,000), air tickets for himself and his family (Ksh. 810,000 + Ksh. 3,195,489), various bonuses, medical cover (Ksh. 1,049,000), salary in lieu (Ksh. 770,000), compensation for the remainder of his contract (Ksh. 10,000,000), a laptop (Ksh. 100,000), and damages (Ksh. 1,000,000..
