Gor Mahia opened a 10-point following a 4-0 victory against Posta Rangers at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.
K’Ogalo were quick off the blocks as they took just two minutes to break the deadlock when Benson Omala struck home after connecting well with Bryson Wangai’s cross.
The defending champions then kept searching for a second with Shariff Musa and Rooney Onyango coming close but the first half ended with a 1-0 lead.
After the break, Gor Mahia upped the ante in search of a second goal, Omala coming close once again, as well as Lawrence Juma.
It did not take long, however, for the second goal to arrive as Sylvester Owino tapped home from a corner to give Johnathan McKinstry’s men a big advantage.
From then on, K’Ogalo put their foot off the gas to protect what they had with Posta Rangers not given a sniff at their goal until the 80th minute when Austin Odhiambo made it 3-0.
Odhiambo would seal his brace when he notched Gor Mahia’s fourth goal seven minutes later to hammer the last nail in Posta Rangers’ coffin as McKinstry’s men held on to see out the game which sees them keep a clean sheet in a third successive match in all competitions and also complete a double over the mailmen.
Victory also saw Gor Mahia return to winning ways following their disappointing FKF Cup exit to lower league side Denmark FC last weekend.
It is also the second straight league match in which Omala has scored, extending his tally to 11 so far this season, and he looks to have put his recent drought behind him.
K’Ogalo now have 50 points, 10 more than second-placed Tusker FC who beat Muhoroni Youth 2-1 in Saturday’s early kick off.
