Gor Mahia warmed up for the weekend’s Mashemeji derby with a easy 3-0 win over FC Talanta on Thursday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
K’Ogalo’s poster boy Benson Omala scored one of the goals to take his tally to ten goals out of ten matches this season as he placed himself on pole in the race for the golden boot.
The victory sent Gor Mahia to third on the table with 23 points, one behind joint leaders Tusker FC and Nzoia Sugar with a match at hand.
It was a resounding message to their Sunday opponents AFC Leopards who had on Wednesday beaten Kenya Police by a solitary goal at Nyayo Stadium as they dared K’Ogalo for the weekend contest.
And Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry now says the stage is set for a tough duel against their traditional arch-rivals.
We have shown that we are ready to face AFC Leopards on Sunday. They are also playing well and the results from their game (against Police) on Wednesday and our performance today sets the stage for an exciting game on Sunday,” said McKinstry.
Gor Mahia expressed their desire to collect all points early into the match.
Joshua Onyango headed home George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo’s corner in the eighth minute.
Ten minutes later Peter Lwasa set striker Benson Omala with a long pass from midfield for the second goals before John Macharia added the third, connecting well with Geoffrey Ochieng’s cross in the 45th minute.
